Sign the Alzheimer’s Society petition
Kingsway Care supports Dementia Action Week and has signed The Alzheimer’s Society petition calling for the government to #CureTheCareSystem.
You can help by signing the petition too. Together with the Alzheimer’s Society, we are calling for the government to provide quality social care that is free and easy to access, no matter where you live – just like the NHS.
One million people living with dementia
Right now, in the UK, nearly one million people with dementia and their families are struggling to get the support and care that they need and deserve.
#CureTheCareSystem
Feelings of confusion, desperation, and isolation don’t just affect people with dementia, they affect their unpaid carers too. This hard-hitting film shows the impact the broken care system has on carers. Without support, dementia claims more than one life.
Self-funding care
The current social care system is complex. Support provided through social services is usually means-tested. Which means it takes into account your current assets and savings. If you have recently been diagnosed with dementia and need support you may be surprised that social care isn’t freely available like the NHS. You will need an assessment by the Local Authority who will determine how much support you need. This will be followed by a financial assessment to decide if you will need to self-fund your care.
The current threshold limit in England is £23,250. If you have more than this, you may be asked to pay the full cost of charges for your care services.
We can help
Kingsway Care can help guide you through the complex process of assessments and applying for benefits and entitlements. The rates for things like Attendance Allowance and Carer’s Allowance aren’t great but every little bit helps and you are entitled to it.
Kingsway Care’s dementia training
We also provide in-house dementia training for carers and next of kin. Understanding how to support the person with dementia can help both of you live well with the condition. Visit https://kingswaycare.com/home-care-options/dementia-care/ to learn more.
