Jonathan, one of Kingsway Care’s lovely CareGivers has gamely entered the Care Sector’s Got Talent competition! Join us in wishing him luck. And why not have a little sing-a-long to Rhinestone Cowboy on the video entry below.

A Big-Hearted CareGiver

Jonathan has been working in the Care Sector most of his life but also loves to sing in his local community of Lancing and beyond. He regularly sings for Worthing Lions events – Lions are men and women who have chosen to give up some of their spare time to help those less fortunate.

He also enjoys singing in Care Homes and for charities such as Mencap and Dementia groups. His repertoire ranges from Neil Diamond and Nat King Cole through to more modern Amy Winehouse and Adele tracks. When he is not looking after Kingsway Care Clients, he is available for birthdays, weddings, and bar mitzvahs!

Let’s find out more about Jonathan in the short Q&A below.

What Did You Do Before?

I was a qualified Chef but ended up becoming a teacher’s assistant and then helped people with special needs. Later, I became a manager of supported housing for five adults living with Autism and Downs Syndrome, helping them to live their lives as independently as possible.

I was also the vocal coach for the Undateables star, Daniel Wakeford. Daniel lives in Brighton and is a singer-songwriter with Autism and two Spotify chart-topping albums. Singing helps him articulate his words and we’ve had great fun working together and using my love of music.

Why Did You Join Kingsway Care?

My last job was extremely challenging and not very well run. I was browsing the recruitment website Indeed and was impressed with the high staff ratings.

My passion for working in Care has been reignited by Kingsway Care. The way they treat and support their staff is exemplary! The Client is also at the centre of everything and we’re encouraged to find imaginative ways to keep them happy. (The admiration is mutual – we love Jonathan’s What’s App birthday message we received last month).

Jonathon CareGiver quote

What Do You Enjoy?

Besides singing, I used to love playing football but have had two hip replacements already! Now I play tennis instead. But I can’t wait to take one of my football crazy clients to the AMEX stadium in Brighton to watch a game. I also recommend Brighton & Hove Table Tennis Club as they are so welcoming to all.

Any Plans For The Future?

I would like to use my passion for singing to help people with dementia. Perhaps by recording personalised songs for the dementia sufferer to enjoy a sing-a-long. That’s a great idea! Meanwhile, watch this space to find out if Jonathan makes it to the finals of Care Sectors Got Talent on 30th September 2021.

Jonathan is single and lives in Lancing and has four grown-up children.
