Kingsway Care Client, Louis, shares his Boccia tips at a special coaching session attended by Kingsway Care, Grace Eyre Foundation, Rise Brighton and expertly organised with fantastic support from Lauren at Brighton & Hove Healthy Lifestyles and Jackie from Freedom Leisure.
Louis is a National Boccia Champion
Louis arrived early on 17th October at the King Alfred Leisure Centre with several sets of Boccia balls, a ramp, head/mouth/hand pointers, tape to mark out the courts, and lots of energy. After whizzing around for an hour, the courts were ready and the eager Boccia players were welcomed.
The Grace Eyre Foundation brought several teams, Pam and Rob from Rise Brighton attended as did, Kingsway Care’s Disability Champion, Katy, our founder, Olly, MD, Vicky, and CareGiver Arthur were all ready to meet the regular Tuesday lunchtime Boccia players for a fun tournament.
Sport for All
After the event, Louis expressed his delight, saying:
“It was fantastic to see everyone really enjoying playing Boccia. I was so impressed with the way experienced Boccia players and complete newbies came together and just enjoyed the game. A couple of attendees hadn’t played since the pandemic so it was fantastic to witness them playing again too.
Boccia has a reputation for being the Paralympic sport for everyone and I think today upheld that. It was unbelievable to see how people of all different ages and abilities/disabilities could participate and have fun. I’m so thankful to everyone who came along today and grateful for the support of those who made the event possible. It is time to be very excited and optimistic about Boccia in Brighton.“

Team Work
Louis also thanked everyone involved for helping to bring the event together so he could share his passion for Boccia.
“Thank you so much to Olly, Vicky, Arthur, and Disability Champion – Katy – for coming along to support the session. Behind the scenes, Kingsway Care has been absolutely instrumental in making this event happen. Helping to forge connections with and between other local organisations. For me, this again proves that Kingsway Care is more than your typical care company. Today shows Kingsway Care’s commitment to the ethos that creating community events is a key part of providing great care.”

Well done to Grace Eyre, Active Sussex and Rise Life Brighton for bringing along their amazing Boccia teams! Jackie from Freedom Leisure was a superb ref, explaining the rules to those of us who were first-time players.
Louis, of course, was fabulous. A true professional, coaching individuals, sharing tips, and generally encouraging others to have a great time!
