Kingsway Care have gone above and beyond to find the right carers for my friend. This isn't an easy task but in their care he is now thriving. Because of a decline in my own health I had to step away from providing regular help to my friend. Soon after the carers began their support. This left my friend feeling uncertain and anxious - but not for long. We have both been able to rest easy knowing that he is getting a high level of care and that his needs are fully understood. When extra care and support has been needed this has been planned in quickly and efficiently. The team are brilliant! So on behalf of us both, thank you.

Glen's Story: Paralysis After A Stroke
Ten years ago, Glen’s life changed dramatically after a stroke that left him with paralysis in his left arm. A left-hander by nature, Glen hadn’t picked up a pen in over a decade. During a home care visit, Peta, one of our senior CareGivers, gently encouraged him to try writing again using his right hand.

Glen and Peta are so proud of his achievement to write again for the first time since his stroke 10 years ago.
Using the Kingsway Care Easter Card Crafting kit, he was able to make a beautiful card for his best friend, Emily.
Including Friends in Care Plans
Glen’s trusted friend, Emily, is a much-valued presence in his life. She used to care for him until her own health started to decline. Now, she still plays an important role in shaping his care. She advises the Kingsway Care team to help Glen stay active. She guides them to steer conversations away from topics that might upset him — like American politics! Instead, Glen finds joy in talking about the wonders of the universe, fond memories of South Africa, or visits to his favourite bench in the park.

Supporting Glen's Independence
Glen lives independently at home, with regular support from Kingsway Care. Our team helps with practical tasks and gently encourages him to stay engaged and motivated. Glen’s CareGivers understand how to strike the right balance between activity and conversation. They always listen when Glen wants to talk, but make sure time isn’t only spent sitting and chatting.

Life Before Glen's Stroke
Originally from South Africa, Glen has had a full and complex life. He moved to the UK and worked as a bricklayer before his stroke, and his independence and strong opinions are part of what makes him who he is today. As he puts it, “I don’t really understand rules or why we have to follow them!” We wouldn’t want to change that.
