Katy Finds Her Voice – With a Little Help from Tech
At Kingsway Care, we believe that communication is about so much more than just words. It’s about connection, confidence — and yes, even a good old-fashioned knock knock joke! That’s why we couldn't wait to share this brilliant assistive tech that has transformed one of our Client's lives.
Meet Katy

Kingsway Care's Disability Champion
Katy is a young woman living with cerebral palsy, a long time Kingsway Care client and proud disability champion. Over the years, she has generously shared her experiences to encourage others with disabilities to seek support to live life well.
She enjoys playing Boccia, swimming at Worthing’s Splashpoint, racing along the seafront in her powered wheelchair, and socialising with Kingsway CareGivers.
Speech Difficulties
Katy's speech difficulties make verbal communication a daily challenge. For years, she used a basic GoTalk 9+ device to express simple needs like “I need a drink” or “I’m cold.” Useful, yes, but limited.
Now? Katy’s world of communication has completely opened up.
Thanks to a referral to the fantastic Chailey Communication Aid Service, (Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust) Katy has been fitted with a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with TrackerPro Head Mouse technology, securely mounted to her powered wheelchair. This means Katy can now type, select, and speak independently using her chosen voice, wherever she goes.
More Than Words
We recently filmed a short video with Katy showing off her new speech aid. It’s impossible to watch without smiling. With just a few clicks, Katy greets us, shares her wish to make a video about her experience, and then delivers a cracking joke:
It’s funny, clever, and heartwarming because it’s Katy, in her own words, her own humour, and her own timing. Watch the YouTube video below or visit our TikTok Channel.
A Life-Changing Difference
Since switching to her new talker, Katy has been able to engage more fully with her CareGivers, her college peers, and the wider world. It’s already improving her independence, confidence, and quality of life.
Katy wants other people living with speech difficulties to know that assistive tech is out there, and it can make a huge difference. With the right support and referral, a voice is always within reach.

Update
Our Katy just phoned up giggling and couldn't wait to tell another cracking joke.
