If you’ve ever wondered what it’s really like to work in home care, Peta, one of our senior CareGivers at Kingsway Care, shares an honest glimpse into her working life. She’s been with us for nearly three years and brings kindness, confidence, and a genuine love for supporting others.
A New Start in Care
Before joining Kingsway Care, Peta worked in the admin department of a nursery. She hadn’t planned a career in social care, but a mix of personal experience caring for her nan and some gentle encouragement from her husband led her to apply. She got an interview and was offered the job the very same day.
Making Each Day Meaningful
One of Peta’s favourite things is taking clients out and about. Many don’t get the chance to leave the house often, and those moments of fresh air, connection, and joy mean everything.
“It’s just seeing their faces,” she says. “They’re so happy when we’re out.”
Care With Heart
Peta also speaks openly about something many people wouldn’t expect: her love of providing end-of-life care. She sees it as an honour.
“It gives people the dignity and comfort of dying in their own home, in their own bed,” she explains.
It’s compassionate, thoughtful work, and exactly what makes carers like Peta so special.
A Typical Day
Her days are busy and full of purpose: getting her children off to school, supporting clients throughout the day, then heading home to walk the dog and enjoy family life. It’s a job that fits around real life, not the other way around.

How many hours a week does a part-time caregiver do?We ask CareGivers to work a minimum of 15 hours per week.
Do CareGivers need to drive?Yes. It is more practical to be able to drive between home care visits and support our clients to go out and enjoy activities in Brighton, Hove and Worthing.
Do CareGivers need any special qualifications?CareGivers don't need qualifications before they apply. But before meeting clients CareGivers attend the Kingsway Care Academy in Hove for a three-day induction training. Then there is continuous training for carers to earn the industry recognised 'Care Certificate'. For our more ambitious caregivers, we also secure funding for NVQs in Health & Social Care.
