Rapid & Responsive Care

Parkinson’s Emergencies Don’t Wait. Neither Do We.

Emergencies don’t come with a warning. But how we respond to them is what defines us as a home care provider.

In our latest YouTube video, Rapid Responsive Home Care, we take you behind the scenes of a recent real-life situation, where swift action, compassion, and strong teamwork made all the difference—for our client and for his family.

This is the story behind the video.

When Parkinson’s Becomes Unpredictable

The gentleman we support has Parkinson’s. Over time, his symptoms, hallucinations, confusion, poor mobility—have slowly become more challenging. But one evening, things took a dramatic turn.

Suddenly, his symptoms escalated. He hadn’t slept for three nights, and he was becoming increasingly distressed. It was clear to us that we needed to act quickly and that his current care plan wasn’t enough.

Showing Up, Staying Calm, and Offering Comfort

At 9:30pm that evening, our Registered Manager, Lisa and Vicky went to visit him at home. In moments like this, practical help matters—but emotional reassurance matters even more. So they did what we know works: they played music. They talked, they laughed, they lightened the mood. They gently distracted him from the frightening experience he was in.

And when it was time to go to bed, they helped him settle and promised to stay with him for a few hours so he’d know he wasn’t alone. That simple act of presence meant everything.

For the first time in three nights, he slept.

Fast-Tracking a New Care Plan

By 7:30am, our CareGiver arrived and confirmed he had finally slept four or five solid hours and already felt much better.

But we knew this wasn’t a one-night fix. He needed round-the-clock support to stay safe, calm, and cared for.

Overnight, Lisa, our brilliant roster manager, had been working behind the scenes to make major changes. That morning, we met again with our client and his family to explain the new plan: with live-in care starting that day.

All of this was arranged and in place within 12 hours.

Caring for the Family, Too

One of the most important details of this story is who else we were supporting—his ex-wife.

Like many families, she had become the “default carer” as his condition progressed. But she wasn’t trained or equipped to handle the complex changes that were emerging, and it had become emotionally and physically overwhelming.

By putting a professional live-in care plan in place so quickly, we gave her something incredibly valuable: relief. She could now step back from being his carer.

Our Advice for Families Facing a Crisis

If you’re supporting someone with Parkinson’s—or any complex condition—here’s what we’d recommend:

  • Know your team: Make sure you know who your GP is, who your specialist nurses are, and how to contact them.
  • Ask questions early: If you’re unsure what to expect, talk to your care provider. At Kingsway Care, we’ll always welcome you in to speak to our trainer or medicine manager. We’re here to help.
  • Know their baseline: Understand how your loved one is on a good day. That way, when something’s off, you’ll spot it quickly—and know when to act.

Real Care, Real Time

Being able to step in during a moment of crisis, offer calm in the chaos, and transform the situation for both our client and his family—that’s what Kingsway Care is all about.
