#WhoMatters? A Film about Home Care
When people talk about home care, they often talk about tasks. Getting up. Getting washed. Taking medication. Keeping safe.
But when you listen to the people who actually receive care, you hear something very different.
You hear about dignity.
About relief.
About being able to stay yourself.
Our new short film, #WhoMatters?, was created to capture that perspective. It is the companion piece to our 2024 film #WhoCares?, which focused on the role of professional caregivers. This time, we wanted to step back and listen to the people receiving care. Make a cup of tea and spend six minutes to Watch #WhoMatters?

The film features three very different stories, each showing how great home care enhances their lives.
Home Care Isn't Just For Older People
Emily is a young adult studying at the University of Sussex. Living with seizures and a long-term health condition that causes fatigue and difficulty with daily tasks, she relies on Kingsway Care to help manage daily routines, reduce stress and stay well enough to continue her studies. With the right support in place, she describes finding her way back to herself.
“I'm back to my more sociable, extroverted self than I was before I became ill and I think that is the main thing that I've gained from having Kingsway.”
Home Care Supports Families, Not Just Individuals
Molly is 94 and lives with memory loss. She loves being busy and getting out into the community, something she can no longer do on her own. Kingsway CareGiver, Bruce, takes her out each week, giving Molly something to look forward to and her daughter, Jane, two precious hours of respite.
“Mum's 94 and she's lost her memory. She loves to go out but she can't go on her own and she gets very bored during the day if she hasn't got anywhere to go.
So we have to plan as many things as we can for her during the week to keep her happy.”
Ageing Together At Home
Bernard and Jill are a married couple who knew that after Bernard’s hospital stay, end of life home care would be essential. With support from Kingsway Care, Bernard can remain at home, well presented and comfortable, allowing family visits to be about connection rather than care tasks. As Jill explains, it means she can simply enjoy time together and focus on being a wife, not a carer.
“Bernard wouldn't be able to stay at home without the support. It would be impossible. I mean yesterday, four grandchildren came in to see us and Bernard was sitting in his chair all dressed, hair brushed, looking the part. I mean I couldn't have done all that.”

What runs through every story is not dependency, but a trusted partnership. Home care that notices small changes and reduces stress. Home care that makes space for family life rather than taking it over. Care that sees the person before the condition.
The film ends with a simple message:
Who matters?
Those who rely on care.
Those who give care.
And those whose lives are changed by it.
There are nearly one million home care visits every day in the UK. Each one supports a person, a family, and the community. Some visits are short-term. Some are life-changing. All of them matter.
#WhoMatters? is our reminder that care is not just something that happens in the background. It is part of everyday life, shaping how people receiving care live, cope, connect and remain themselves.
