Meet Male CareGiver Bruce
When people picture a home carer, they often imagine a woman with a car but at Kingsway Care, we know that brilliant care comes in all forms. In fact, both our male and female clients have told us how much they enjoy the company of our male caregivers. Of course, we always match clients to their preferences, but having wonderful carers like Bruce on our team proves just how valuable diversity in care can be.
Bruce joined Kingsway Care in December 2023 on a sponsorship visa from South Africa, and in less than a year he’s already built strong bonds with the people he supports. You’ll spot him in our latest photoshoot, sharing laughs with Pat and deep conversations with Barry. A true glimpse into the trust and companionship that’s at the heart of great care.
From Lego to Life as a Carer
As a child, Bruce never had a fixed idea of what he wanted to be when he grew up. Instead, he followed his passions — drawing, building Lego worlds, watching movies, and learning every word to his favourite songs. Looking back now, he realises creativity and imagination have always been at the core of who he is.
“I never would have guessed I’d end up as a carer,” Bruce says. “But it still feels like me caring for people with patience and creativity, just in a different way.”
A Creative Career Journey
Before moving into care, Bruce built a career rooted in design and people skills. He studied Interior Design and worked in both architecture and graphic design, before moving into the events industry where he created themed events and décor. Later, he spent 12 years as an estate agent, honing his communication skills and working closely with people from all walks of life.
These experiences gave him a unique blend of creativity, empathy, and people skills. The perfect foundation for a career in home care.
Why Kingsway Care?
After years in customer-focused roles, Bruce wanted to do something more meaningful, something that would make a difference every day.

Since joining, he’s been working full-time as a domiciliary carer, supporting clients with personal care, daily routines, and, perhaps most importantly, companionship.
A Special Day Out
Bruce recently shared a lovely story about a day out with Derick, one of our clients.
"I had an afternoon off unexpectedly a few weeks ago because a client cancelled. I’ve always wanted to take Derick out somewhere, and I also wanted to go check out the Shoreham Airport, so I surprised him and took him out for a few hours. There was no cost to Derick of course, but he very kindly bought me some coffee and a toasted cheese and tomato sandwich. Afterwards, I took him into Shoreham town for another cup of coffee.
It was just so amazing for me to see how much he enjoyed being out again. I adore Derick, and I loved spending a longer time with him — this time in my own time and in such a relaxed environment!"
This thoughtful gesture shows exactly what makes Bruce so special: he doesn’t just provide care during his working hours. He genuinely enjoys building connections and bringing joy to the people he supports.

Bruce understands that clients face many challenges from maintaining independence to coping with health conditions. His approach is simple:
- For clients – he’s reliable, patient, and supportive, always respecting independence while providing the right level of help.
- For colleagues – he’s a team player, ready to communicate and share the workload to support his fellow caregivers.
It’s no surprise that Bruce has already made such a strong impression with both clients and employees.
