Meet Audrey: A Passion for Care
From Zimbabwe to Sussex, we're lucky to have Awesome Audrey join our team.
If you’ve met Audrey, one of our CareGivers at Kingsway Care, you’ll know she’s full of warmth, laughter, and positivity. Originally from Zimbabwe, Audrey brings with her not only a bright and bubbly personality but also years of first-hand experience, compassion, and a genuine desire to make a difference in people’s lives.
A Voice for the Voiceless
When she was growing up, Audrey dreamed of becoming an Advocate, someone who could speak up for those without a voice. And in many ways, she’s lived true to that calling. Whether it’s supporting her parents in Zimbabwe, co-founding an organisation that empowers Women in Agriculture, or advocating for underprivileged women alongside her sister, Audrey has always been driven by the desire to help others.
A Life of Care
Audrey’s journey into care began in 2000, when she became the main caregiver for both her parents. She experienced first-hand the challenges and responsibilities of supporting a loved one in need, and it gave her deep empathy for the people she now looks after.
Caring has always been at the heart of her life, not just as a job, but as a way of giving, sharing, and lifting others up. As Audrey puts it:
"I love and enjoy giving and sharing a part of me. This job has created an opportunity for me to spread my joy and light a candle in other people's dark days."
Finding Kingsway Care
Audrey’s path to Kingsway Care came about in a rather funny way. A former colleague spotted our job advert and encouraged her to apply. Audrey admits she wasn’t convinced at first, she even told her friend she had already applied when she hadn’t! But with a little persistence from her colleague, Audrey sent in her application and came to her interview.
“The welcome and the vibe I felt during my interview made me know I wanted to be part of Kingsway Care,” she recalls.
Since then, she’s been working full-time as a proud caregiver, continuing to spread her joy and compassion with every client she meets.
Challenges and Rewards in Care
Audrey understands that clients can face big challenges — especially the loss of independence, which often brings frustration, anxiety, or sadness. She approaches these moments with patience, empathy, and reassurance, helping clients adjust while always respecting their dignity.
For caregivers, the work can sometimes be physically and emotionally demanding. But Audrey believes in balance, teamwork, and leaning on each other for support.
Her reward? The little things. A smile over a shared cup of coffee, the comfort of listening to a client’s story, or the joy of making someone’s day brighter.
"Getting a salary is just a bonus and a cherry on the icing," Audrey says. "The real reward is knowing I’ve given a part of myself to someone in need."
Growing Every Day
Audrey has her Care Certificate and is constantly learning through new courses, training, and mentorship at Kingsway Care. She’s committed to broadening her knowledge, especially around different illnesses and how best to support people living with them.
Most of all, she’s grateful for the support and kindness she’s found in her team:
"Kingsway Care have been supportive above and beyond any employer. They really showed me it’s not about the money but real care and teamwork. I feel I gained a family here."
Lighting Up Lives
Since the Kingsway Care Chichester Canal cruise, two of our lovely Clients, Biddy and Pat, have become firm friends. Recently, Audrey took both of them out for lunch at Mayberry Garden Centre.
Audrey said, “It was lovely seeing them enjoy each other’s company again.”
Audrey’s story is a reminder of what care is truly about, not just tasks, but compassion, joy, and human connection. With her radiant smile and big heart, she continues to light up the lives of everyone she meets, one small act of kindness at a time.
